FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
In hiding for centuries, Life + Death finally show themselves to Philadelphia.
Philadelphia, PA — LIFE + DEATH is a performance of live music, dance, and installation artwork created and presented by a group of Unraveled Artists who have reflected deeply on the transient process of existence and consciousness. Designed to engage multiple senses, LIFE + DEATH is presented as two separate, yet related simultaneous shows taking place across the hallway from one another in the multidisciplinary arts building, Asian Arts Initiative, in Philadelphia’s burgeoning Chinatown North neighborhood. Audience members are encouraged to walk between the LIFE and DEATH rooms as they wish.
The multimedia installation designs are built and two-hour dance performances are choreographed local Philadelphia artists Caitlin Dagle and Marina Kec. Caitlin presents life as a bright, playful and shared experience. She performs in this show with two friends and fellow performance artists, Tess and Emma who work together as a trio to display the abstract absurdity that is the adventure reserved for the living. Marina’s solo dance theater work compassionately investigates the concept of death – focusing on its solitary nature and the peace that follows its wake of destruction. A mosaic of memories and moments of reflection, this piece gracefully unveils a hypnotizing landscape of post mortem whimsy.
Both Caitlin and Marina’s performances are accompanied by live music composed and performed by Philadelphia native, Corey Pace. Corey’s music is fundamentally experimental and ambient, presenting a deeply emotional, reflective and almost meditative state of mind for his listeners. For this show he has composed an exceptionally unique soundscape which has been cloned and inverted to expose the listener to death as a slow reversing of life.
